The Whose Line Drinking Game

The Whose Line Drinking Game

A couple of weeks ago, I listed the original U.S. run of the improv comedy series Whose Line Is It Anyway? as one of my favorite comfort/distraction shows to watch as of late. The entire series is currently streaming on the CW Seed app and I am, currently, well into the third season of re-watching the series and... As I did with Columbo, I find myself taking immense pleasure in the recurring events, jokes, and behaviors of the cast that make them feel like family, both to each other and to me.Thus, I have created yet another drinking game.

Feel free to participate, in any way that you fancy, and not necessarily with an alcoholic beverage. This was originally aired on ABC after all, and, if you want to be properly thematic, you can always drink Pepsi out of a mug like Drew Carey. Alternatively, you could play the ‘Get Ripped Like Wayne Brady’ variant of this game:  do ten push-ups instead of taking a drink. Who couldn’t use the exercise right now? Regardless of the way you play the game, you need some rules. Here they are! Play responsibly!

Take a drink whenever:

  1. Wayne totally pulls off a super esoteric Song Style.

  2. Anyone makes a joke about Colin’s baldness.

  3. Wayne performs an incredible physical feat that makes you question if he’s a human being.

  4. Ryan uses the word “squeaky,” as a sound effect.

  5. Ryan is forced to eat something during Helping Hands.

  6. Drew messes up his one and only game of a given episode.

  7. Ryan does a “we gather here to bury…,” joke during Props.

  8. Laura Hall is accompanied by another musician.

  9. Everyone, except Wayne, is blatantly unaware that backup singers do more than dance in the background.

  10. Colin worms his way out of rhyming during Hoedown.

  11. Anyone rhymes “scary,” with “Drew Carey” during Hoedown.

  12. Drew makes a demeaning comment about an audience member’s career.

  13. Colin does a T-Rex impression.

  14. Ryan does a Carol Channing impression.

  15. Anyone makes a political joke that immediately dates the episode.

  16. Anyone makes a crack about Drew during a game.

  17. Ryan’s shoes burn your corneas.

  18. Chip has to be spoon fed the answer to a guessing game.

  19. There is an accident on set (fall, spill, broken set piece, etc.)

  20. Drew selects a pair of unwilling middle-aged women for Sound Effects.

Party Game Variation: Write the rules on strips of paper, fold and put into a bowl, and then have players (i.e. anyone in self-isolation with you) draw a certain number of rules to look for per episode… It can be even funnier when there is an element of added surprise and everyone’s focusing on different things...

As always: please drink (or exercise) responsibly! Don’t forget to share: what your favorite Whose Line moments are, who’s your favorite cast member, plus, do you even think that Wayne Brady is really human? Let me know in the comments below, and keep on laughing!
