September Film Club Pick

September Film Club Pick

We had so much fun last month, and we hope you did too, watching (or rewatching) The Wizard of Oz. This month, we wanted to go in a slightly different direction, moving away from musicals to more serious fare, while also celebrating the month of September by remembering an iconic actress and one of her many film performances. Born Betty Joan Perske, on September 24, 1924, but more well known by her stage name, Lauren Bacall, we have themed the month of September around this leading lady and one of her many thrillers with her onscreen love interest and real-life husband, Humphrey Bogart. Bacall and Bogart made only four films together, but their story and romance transcended that which was captured on the silver screen, and we, the team at The Film Rewind, have selected Dark Passage, which was originally released on September 5, 1947, as our September Film Club pick. (see we just had to take the whole “September” theme and run with it…)

What do you get a cinephile for Christmas? A DVD collection, of course! This 2016 collection includes all four Bacall and Bogart flicks, as well as two of their iconic solo performances, namely: The Maltese Falcon (starring Bogart, 1941) and Designi…

What do you get a cinephile for Christmas? A DVD collection, of course! This 2016 collection includes all four Bacall and Bogart flicks, as well as two of their iconic solo performances, namely: The Maltese Falcon (starring Bogart, 1941) and Designing Women (starring Bacall, 1957).

If you didn’t join us last month, check out our “Welcome to Film Club” post to get up to speed on the club ‘rules.’ Basically, we carefully select and announce our film club pick the first Friday of every month, then you should take some time to hunt down and watch our fabulous selection, and then check back in with us on the last Friday of the month for our reviews and discussion of the selected film. We hope you will enjoy watching this month’s classic thriller, Dark Passage, and might even get inspired to revisit all of Bacall and Bogart’s film appearances together. We’re sure it’s a screen pairing you will fall for.
