Welcome to Film Club

Welcome to Film Club

When I first came up with the idea for this blog, The Film Rewind, it started with the notion to create a digital ‘Film Club,’ a place for cinephiles to come together and discuss film. A platform that would not merely post scathing reviews, drop spoilers, or gossip about celebrities. Instead, my goal for The Film Rewind is that it becomes the ‘book club’ of the digital age, a space where people can respectfully express their opinions and engage with a community of fellow film geeks.

No club, however, is complete without a certain set of rules… The first rule of film club (unlike Fight Club): is that you have to share this blog with your friends, girlfriends, boyfriends, family members, coworkers, neighbors, roommates, classmates, distant relatives who you only see during the holidays, the teen who bags your groceries, the person who cuts your hair, and the guy standing way too close to you on the subway, who may even be reading this over your shoulder. Share this blog, and our ‘Film of the Month’ pick, with everyone.

The second rule of film club (arguably the most important): you have to watch the whole movie. I know, it seems too simple and a no-brainer, but it needs to be said. In order to talk about any film, TV show, or internet video, you have to watch the whole thing, from beginning to end, all the parts, previews to after the credits, and even if you have seen it before, watch it again. Seriously, just watch the whole thing, as this is a key aspect of the cinematic experience, whether in a movie theater, or the comfort of your own home. Track down a copy of the film we select, whether you buy it, rent it, see it in a theater, stream it, or borrow it, and basically have a ‘movie night’ and discuss the film with whomever you watched it with (pet conversations included).

The third rule of film club: is that after watching the monthly film pick, check back in on the blog, and respectfully join in with the conversation we start by sharing your own critiques and reviews of the film. Here at The Film Rewind we value your opinions, but expect all participants to be respectful when communicating on our blog, as we reserve the right to remove any comments, especially those we deem inappropriate and/or disrespectful.

We hope that you will join us along our blogging and film viewing journey! Be on the lookout for the first ‘Film of the Month’ pick, to be announced the first Friday of every month, and our reviews, discussion, and follow-up on the film, to be posted by the last Friday of the month. Happy Viewing!
