June 2022 Film Club Pick: Extraterrestrial Double Feature!
The summer solstice is right around the corner, and there were just too many wonderful choices for us to select just one film this month… So, we, the oft-distracted team at The Film Rewind, figured: what better way to kick off summer than with a family-friendly extraterrestrial-themed double feature!? (We bet you’ve already got an inkling, or two, into our selections this month…)
We are excited to announce that our June 2022 Film Club Picks are: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial (1982, dir. Steven Spielberg) and Lilo & Stitch (2002, dirs. Chris Sanders and Dean DeBlois)!!! Released 20 years apart, we can’t help but see sooo many similarities between these two films, and cannot wait to celebrate their respective milestones this month. E.T. was originally released June 11, 1982, currently celebrating the 40th anniversary of its release, and Lilo & Stitch was theatrically released June 21, 2002, currently celebrating the 20th anniversary of its release. (What better way to make millennials feel old? Am I right?) Besides, could there possibly be a cuter pair of extraterrestrial creatures? We certainly don’t think so!
We hope that you will join us in watching these films this month, whether you might see them for the first time or hundredth, there is no better time for this double feature! Gather your family, fur babies, and friends, pop some popcorn, round up some Reese’s Pieces and Hawaiian Punch, and queue up both E.T. and Lilo & Stitch on the streaming platforms of your choosing (E.T. is presently streaming with a Peacock subscription, and Lilo & Stitch is on Disney+, but both films can be rented for $3.99 on Amazon Prime if you don’t already happen to own the DVDs…), and settle in for an evening of out-of-this-world mayhem. Blanket forts and flashlights optional, but highly encouraged. Enjoy!
