The Gilmore Girls Drinking Game

The Gilmore Girls Drinking Game

Fall is upon us, and what better way to celebrate the most wonderful time of the year than with a watch (or rewatch) of the seasonally-centered dramedy, Gilmore Girls (The WB/The CW, 2000-2007)? Merely the very first images of autumnal foliage in the opening title sequence can get you in the fall mood, and with the series set in the small, fictional New England town of Stars Hollow, CT, the seasons play a big role in the entire atmosphere of the series. While Lorelai’s favorite season might be winter, this show was pretty much designed to be watched in the fall. So fire up the tube (the series is currently streaming on Netflix, along with the follow-up series, A Year in the Life, which features its very own episode dedicated to fall!) and take a look at these rules for the Gilmore Girls drinking game. As always, drink responsibly if partaking in alcohol, but this show should probably be enjoyed with Lorelai’s lifeblood: coffee. She may like it black, but who couldn’t do with a pumpkin spice latte (or two) right about now?

Take a drink when:

  1. Any character mentions coffee (take a second sip if it is Lorelai).

  2. Lorelai and/or Rory eat junk food.

  3. Luke begins a rant and/or lecture in his diner.

  4. Kirk has a new side hustle.

  5. Lane hides a “sinful” activity from Mrs. Kim.

  6. There is a town meeting.

  7. There is a town event (dance-off, hay bale maze, etc.).

  8. You groan at Rory’s relationship choices.

  9. You don’t understand a pop culture reference (take a second sip if you are curious enough to look it up).

  10. Emily has a new maid.

  11. You seethe as Luke and Lorelai don’t express their feelings to each other.

  12. Sookie has a klutzy moment.

  13. Rory says she wants to go to Harvard.

  14. Paris has a breakdown.

  15. Miss Patty and/or Barbette steal the scene.

  16. You hear (and possibly hum along to) those gentle “la las” in the soundtrack.

What is your favorite moment from Gilmore Girls? What are you watching to get in the autumnal spirit? Let me know in the comments below, and don’t be late for Friday night dinner!
