June 2021 Film Club Pick: The Man Who Knew Too Much

After a rather hectic spring, we are eager to get back in the swing of things here at The Film Rewind. What better way to do so than by once again honoring the master of suspense himself, Alfred Hitchcock? It’s a bit unbelievable that in the nearly two years of this blog, we have only had one of Hitch’s films as a pick for Film Club (the review of Psycho last September). With decades of masterpieces under his belt, there’s so much to discuss when it comes to Hitchcock, and with the 65th anniversary of The Man Who Knew Too Much having just passed on June 1st, we find this to be a perfect opportunity to dip back into the Hitchcock pool.

A quasi remake of Hitch’s 1934 film of the same name (the term “remake” used very loosely here, as the two films are predominately different), The Man Who Knew Too Much stars (Bailey’s beloved) James Stewart and (America’s beloved) Doris Day as a married couple fighting to be reunited with their kidnapped son in a tale of international crime, murder, abduction, and taxidermy. Classic Hitchcock. The film features the bona fide ditty “Que Sera, Sera (Whatever Will Be, Will Be)” which won the Academy Award for Best Original Song. So, take the time to watch, or re-watch, this Hitchcock staple, and meet us back here at the end of the month for our discussion. Happy June, and happy watching!
