Funny Zombies
If I had to pick one horror trend that does not appear to be going anywhere, anytime soon, it would be: zombies. The flesh-and-brain-eating, mutant, ghoulish humanoid-things of nightmares, not to be confused with the old school voodoo zombie, are a thing of current fascination and having a moment in popular media. Films, television shows, web series’, novels, graphic novels, and video games (just to name a few) have all embraced the zombie phenomenon, and so have I.
Zombies have come a long way from the lumbering ghouls of George A. Romero’s Night of the Living Dead (1968), becoming faster and more sinister, and invading our houses on a weekly basis via the comic-adapted TV series The Walking Dead (2010 – Present), and its spin-off, Fear the Walking Dead (2015 – Present). One trend I was not expecting, but absolutely adore, is the rise of funny zombie films and TV shows. You know a trend isn’t going anywhere when it becomes the fodder of satire and provides countless hours of side-splitting comedy, from family films, to gore-filled black comedies, and all genres in between.
Collected here is a list of just some of the many funny zombie themed film and TV series that have arisen over the past few years. From the tame-ish bellhop zombies in the animated family flick, Hotel Transylvania (2012), to the zombie-musical-Christmas-horror-black-comedy, Anna and the Apocalypse (2017), there is truly a funny zombie film out there for everyone. So, grab some popcorn, round up your friends, and get prepared to laugh… Who knew that the zombie apocalypse could be so funny?
