Dreaming of Disneyland
Today marks the anniversary of the opening of Disneyland on July 17, 1955. It also coincides with the official launch of our blog and has got me thinking about the different ways that I have been inspired by my experiences with all things Disney, from the animated films, theme parks, and to quotes by Walt Disney, throughout my life.
On July 10, 1993, I was taken to see my first film in a movie theater, which just happened to be a re-release of the 1937 Disney classic: Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. I was very young at the time, but the entire experience left a lasting impression upon me, as I was mesmerized by the animation on the big screen. From that moment on, I was hooked on all things cinema. Little did I realize that film would become my main academic interest in college and graduate school.
While in grad school I stumbled across a quote by Walt Disney that continues to inspire me on a daily basis. Walt once said, “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” For years I have talked about starting a blog and what I want to do with all my film knowledge, but now I am finally in a place to do something and actually begin my blogging journey.
If you have been fortunate enough to go to Disneyland (or any Disney theme park or experience) please feel free to share your fondest memory with us in the comments below. On my one, and only, trip to Disney World, I remember loving attractions such as the Haunted Mansion, Spaceship Earth, and the (now defunct) Great Movie Ride. Hopefully I will get a chance to visit the original theme park that has spawned so many others, but until then, I can keep the magic and spirit of Disneyland with me though the words and cinematic works of Walt Disney.
