April 2022 Film Club Pick
We know… It is well over midway through the month and we, the Team at The Film Rewind, have yet to announce our film selection for April… What can we say? We were wrought with indecision and had too many wonderful films with which we could select our focus flick for the month. Should we pick any number of fantastic films with movie milestones this month, such as Singin’ in the Rain (1952, dir. Stanley Donen and Gene Kelly) or Scarface (1932, dir. Howard Hawks), or perhaps something completely different, such as a movie in honor of Earth Day? As far as picking a film, and narrowing down our selection went, we really didn’t have a clue…
And then, it struck us! The perfect movie selection for not knowing what to select, namely the 1985 black comedy and who-done-it classic: Clue. This film was directed by Jonathan Lynn and is based loosely upon the popular board game, “Clue” (aka “Cluedo” outside of the US), but apart from some character aliases and locations from the classic game board the film really branches out on its own with regard to the plot and zany mix of mystery and comedy tropes. Clue also happens to feature a stellar ensemble cast of Madeline Kahn, Eileen Brennan, Christopher Lloyd, Michael McKean, Martin Mull, Lesley Ann Warren, and Tim Curry. Besides, we love celebrating celebrity birthdays, and Tim Curry just happens to have a birthday on April 19, so what better film could we select!?
Whether you have seen this cult classic countless times before, or may need to watch it in the coming week for the very first time, we hope that you will join us in revisiting Clue this month! We can almost guarantee that watching this movie may make you want to want to haul out your own copy of ‘Clue’ (I’m particularly fond of the ‘Clue Master Detective’ edition, because who doesn’t love more rooms, suspects, and murder weapons?) and play a round or two of the game with your friends and family. I mean, what better way is there to bond than in solving a murder or two…?
What do you think of our April Film Club Pick? Which board game version of ‘Clue’ is your favorite? Share your thoughts in the comments below and check back soon for more posts!
