May Film Club: Sabrina

May Film Club: Sabrina

If you’ve been keeping track of the number of our blog posts in April, you may have surmised that we, the team here at The Film Rewind, have had a lot on our plates as of late... This month for our Film Club Pick, we want to keep things light, pleasant, and entertaining. As such, another rom-com sounds particularly wonderful (plus we’d like to skip the reading assignments for the month of May). And what better rom-com to pick than one starring the late Audrey Hepburn, who would have celebrated her 92nd birthday on May 4th? After much deliberation, we have selected Billy Wilder’s 1954 film, Sabrina. We think it’s the perfect pick!

The film stars Hepburn as the titular character, Sabrina, a chauffeur's daughter who falls in love with a wealthy playboy (William Holden), much to the chagrin of his older brother (Humphrey Bogart)... The film can be viewed as a coming-of-age tale, but beyond that we wouldn't want to spoil the plot for those of you who may not have seen this film before!

Sabrina  was nominated for six Academy Awards, with the indelible Edith Head securing her sixth award for Costume Design. Although many of Hepburn's gowns were actually designed by Hubert de Givenchy, marking the start of a long standing collaboration between the two for much of Audrey Hepburn's future wardrobe choices, both on screen and off. The film is currently streaming for free on PlutoTV, so be sure to give it a watch!

Well, there’s your assignment. Meet us back here at the end of the month to discuss Sabrina. Happy viewing!
