Sarah’s December Watchlist

I feel like Christmas came early this year, as there have been so many fun TV shows premiering for the holiday season! With returning favorites, and new shows that I can’t stop watching, why bother going anywhere? My plan, for the month of December, is just to stay home and to keep watching all the excellent programming that has arrived just in time for the holidays! Check out my current favorite programs:

The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel – Season 3, Amazon Prime Video

If you haven’t already started watching this wonderful Golden Globe and Emmy Award winning series from Gilmore Girls creator Amy Sherman-Palladino, then it is officially time to start! Season 3 follows Miriam “Midge” Maisel (Rachel Brosnahan) as she sets out on the road, touring and opening for singer Shy Baldwin (Leroy McClain), but things are never just fun and laughs for this talented comedienne. The new season was released on December 6th via Amazon Prime Video and I’ve ready finished every episode… Now I have to wait for the next season… Bah Humbug!

Wrap Battle – Season 1, Freeform/Hulu

What do you get when you mix a ‘Project Runway style’ reality competition with holiday gift wrapping? Enter: Wrap Battle, the most ridiculous competition series that I have ever watched. Week after week the ‘wrappers’ are tasked with one outlandish gift-wrapping challenge after another. Between the wrapping puns, and hostility between the contestants, this show is best watched with some spiked eggnog.

Making It – Season 2, NBC/Hulu

This one is for all the craft enthusiasts out there. Making It is one of those feel-good reality competition shows, in a similar vein to the Great British Bake Off, but pits a group of amateur crafters against each other for the right to be named “Master Maker” and win a $100,000 prize. But if that didn’t hook you in already, the show is hosted by Amy Poehler and Nick Offerman, who spend every episode hamming it up and making crafting puns galore. Season 2 of the series just finished airing between December 2-11th, but you can still catch up on every episode online.

The Great American Baking Show: Holiday Edition – Season 5, ABC/Hulu

Speaking of baking competition shows, the American version of the Great British Bake Off is back for a fifth, and holiday themed, season! This series pits 10 amateurs baking against each other as they compete in a series of over-the-top baking challenges, in a tent, in the middle of the British countryside. This time the bakers have to impress judges Paul Hollywood and Sherry Yard, while not getting too distracted by the antics of host Emma “Baby Spice” Bunton and Anthony “Spice” Adams. The 5th season premiered on December 12th on ABC with more episodes to follow in the coming weeks.

The Great Christmas Light Fight – Season 7, ABC/Hulu

I know, another holiday competition series!?! This one is all about over-the-top holiday light displays, with host Taniya Nayak and Carter Oosterhouse traveling all over the country to visit contestants’ homes and witness their tricked-out light displays and holiday decorations. The 7th season began on December 2nd on ABC, with double episodes airing each Monday night. Be sure to tune in tomorrow for the season finale!

Lost in Space – Season 2, Netflix: Releases December 24th

What are your plans for Christmas Eve? I’ll be watching the latest season of the 2018 reboot of Lost in Space. This Netflix series has once again updated the “Swiss Family Robinson” inspired space saga, based on the 1965 TV series of the same name (and 1998 film remake). This time the Robinson family was selected for the 24th mission of the “Resolute,” an interstellar spaceship transporting families to the Alpha Centauri star system to colonize a new planet, but before they could reach their final destination, the Robinsons had to evacuate the “Resolute” and crash-landed on a strange but habitable planet. Season 1 left us with the cliff-hanger of all cliff-hangers, with the Robinsons having been sent to a completely different galaxy, even farther from their intended destination… I can’t wait to find out what happens next!

What TV shows are you currently watching? What do you think of the shows I’m currently fascinated by? Share your thoughts in the comments below! Plus, don’t forget to take some time to watch out December Film Club Pick-of-the-Month: Christmas in Connecticut (1945)!
