Bailey’s Podcast Recommendations: This One's for Film and Television Fans

Podcasts are a huge part of my daily life. Whether I’m taking a walk, showering, or doing any task that doesn’t require a ton of focus, there’s a good chance I have a podcast playing at the same time. I listen to A LOT of podcasts. Despite the fact that I gradually eliminate the shows that lose my interest, I am currently subscribed to 38 podcasts. Some may see this as a problem or sickness, but I just consider myself showered with an abundance of great entertainment choices. Today I would like to present you with the film and television podcasts I enjoy the most. They range from serious discussions to hilarious banter, and I strongly encourage you to check out any that are of interest to you!

Film

You Must Remember This

This podcast, hosted by critic Karina Longworth delves into the history of Hollywood through engaging stories of notable figures in the industry.

Filmspotting

Hosted by critics Adam Kempenaar and Josh Larsen, Filmspotting takes a look at films both new and old: reviewing new releases, exposing up-and-coming independent artists, and exploring essentials of the film canon.

The Next Picture Show

A spinoff of Filmspotting, this podcast features the team from the late great film website, The Dissolve, comparing a new release to a classic film and discussing how films separated by time speak to each other.

The Bechdel Cast

In this hilarious podcast, hosts Caitlin Durante and Jamie Loftus are joined by a guest each week to discuss the portrayal of women in any film of their choice. Recent episodes include commentary on the Brave, Cats, and Sister Act.

DIS-Order

Lifelong Disney fans Andy, Hunter, and Michael take a chronological journey through the history of Disney animation, outlining the production history, and their personal takes on each Disney animated film.

Til Death Do Us Blart

In this annual podcast (that will go on for the rest of linear time), the McElroy brothers and the hosts of The Worst Idea of All Time (or whoever has succeeded them when their time on Earth is done) come together every American Thanksgiving to watch and discuss the film Paul Blart Mall Cop 2.  Each year the hilarious (and dilarious) hosts return to this decidedly awful film with new insights, theories, and methods of getting through this self-imposed torture.

Television

Buffering the Vampire Slayer

Hosts Jenny Owen Young and Kristin Russo watch the series Buffy the Vampire Slayer, with each episode being recapped in an amazing original song created by the hosts. As a bonus, Jenny and Kristin occasionally interview special guests that were involved with the series.

Star Trek: The Next Conversation

Star Trek: The Next Generation aficionado Matt Mira is joined by a newbie to the series, Andrew Secunda, to watch the series episode by episode, providing a close “viewing” with their commentary as they play clips from the show to aid in their witty criticism.

Columboys

Columbo fan Mack introduces Ben to the rumpled detective as the two watch the series episode by episode with funny commentary and insights into the fashion of the series.
