“Let’s Do the Time Warp Again!”

🎵“It’s astounding,

Time is fleeting,

Madness takes its toll…”

2020 feels like we have certainly slipped into another dimension, so why not take the month of August to celebrate the 45th Anniversary of one of the most iconic cult films of all time? Originally premiering on August 15, 1975, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, directed by Jim Sharman and based upon the 1973 stage musical of the same name by Richard O’Brien, was not an immediate success upon its release (many critics hated the film). However, this film, which was essentially conceived as a loving homage to late-night movies, was quickly embraced by movie-goers and has since become the preeminent midnight movie.

“But listen closely,

Not for very much longer,

I've got to keep control…”

Given the cultural phenomena that surrounds this film, we feel that it is unnecessary, at this juncture, to go into further production detail, as we will save all of that for our discussion of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the end of this month. Be sure to track down a copy of this film (if you do not happen to already own a copy yourself), and feel free to create your own midnight movie viewing experience (parti---ci---pation is highly encouraged). Finally, for those of you who consider this film a part of your typical ‘Halloween’ viewing, you are in luck, as most grocery stores are already selling Halloween candy… So, what are you waiting for? Embrace those autumnal urges and procure some snacks, costumes, a few props or two, and don’t forget to perform some vocal warm-ups as you prepare to sing-along to The Rocky Horror Picture Show!

“I remember doing the Time Warp,

Drinking those moments when,

The blackness would hit me…”

What do you think of our August Film Club Pick? How many times have you seen The Rocky Horror Picture Show? Any hilarious midnight screening memories to share? Let us know what you think in the comments below, and, if you need a little refresher or inspiration concerning callouts or ways of creating your own interactive viewing experience (I’m talking to you Rocky Horror ‘virgins’), check out the following links:

Let's do the Time Warp again…” 🎶
